Efilm
Support Portal
Supported by the IWFA, Efilm is available in a number of different versions; each version is specific to various window film manufacturers and is pre-loaded with film performance data specific to that manufacturer. This website provides links to each manufacturers EFilm licensing portal where CR’s can manage licensing and authorizations for all users within their company. All users must be registered AND authorized by the Manufacturer CR to use that manufacturers version of Efilm. The EFilm licensing portals also provide a download location for Efilm Software Installs, Updates and other support files.
FAQs
How was Efilm Created?
The model for the typical building was developed based on available studies of the average building use in the United States (Existing Buildings) and based on a new edition of energy codes and relevant DOE benchmark buildings (New Construction). Many parameters are customizable, including envelope construction, HVAC systems, internal loads, schedules, infiltration, etc.
How does Efilm Work?
Efilm incorporates a number of predefined commercial and residential buildings in several predefined shapes. Users can select the building type, it’s vintage, overall building shape, building footprint dimensions, the number of floors, their orientation and location. Users can also set various fenestration options such as window type, size, the number of windows on individual facades and walls, glazing selection, film application, daylighting controls, shading and fenestration infiltration rates.
What sort of customizations can I make?
Advanced users can further change the construction of walls, roofs, floors, internal partitions, HVAC systems and their parameters, internal loads, infiltration rates, schedules, etc.
Does Efilm provide cost analysis?
In addition, EFilm also includes a comprehensive cost analysis for energy, HVAC equipment, fenestration systems and applied films. From this data, EFIlm can predict energy savings and utility cost reductions. With this application, users can confidently predict the effects of different fenestration systems options for a building at a particular climate location as well as the reduced capital costs from downsizing HVAC equipment for better fenestration Options.
What is the engine that drives the software?
The energy simulation in EFilm is performed using the EnergyPlus simulation engine which was developed under the continuous funding of the Untied States Department of Energy (U.S. DOE). EnergyPlus is considered an industry leading energy simulation program with improved accuracy and overall capability as compared to older simulation programs such as DOE2.
Are there different versions of the software?
Two versions of EFilm have been developed; Advanced and Simplified. Advanced – The advanced version is intended for engineers who understand the enrgy simulation and are compfortable with tweaking building parameters. Advanced users can make adjustments to energy models to better match utility data and thus improve the prediction of energy savings. Simplified – The Simplified version is meant for sales and marketing users who are not comfortable changing various building parameters and who want to have a simple user interface for quick model preparations.
What do I do if I need support for the software?
Each window film manufacturer has their own version of the Efilm software. If you need assistance, please reach out to your companies (CR – Customer Representative) for assistance. This person and their contact information will be clearly displayed on your companies Efilm licensing portal.
